Our Mission

Activating Change works to end the widespread victimization and mass incarceration of people with disabilities and Deaf people by raising awareness, transforming narratives, strengthening movements and organizations, and uplifting the leadership of people with disabilities and Deaf people while providing direct services that restore dignity, safety, and healing.

Our Program Areas

  • People with disabilities are three to five times more likely to experience victimization compared to people without disabilities.

    Creating Pathways to Healing

We partner with communities to remove barriers, build new pathways, and develop disability-centered, trauma-informed approaches that place survivors at the heart of safety and healing.

  • In 71 percent of states, Deaf survivors cannot access services from Deaf-led advocacy programs.

    Expanding Deaf Services

We help Deaf survivors access victim services in ASL by providing direct support, growing Deaf-led programs, and breaking barriers in hearing programs.

  • People with disabilities are four times more likely to be incarcerated than people without disabilities.

    Ending Mass Incarceration

We confront the drivers of incarceration for people with disabilities by supporting system-impacted leaders, advancing reform, and creating accessible off-ramps into community.
